S13 Integrated Advantages

Fuel Efficiency

The International LT with the S13 Integrated Powertrain leads the on-highway aero category in fuel economy by at least 5%.

Up to 515 HP

With up to 515 horsepower and 1,850 lb-ft of torque, the S13 delivers strong performance across demanding applications.

Streamlined Design

By eliminating the EGR cooler and diesel oxidation catalyst, the S13 helps reduce complexity and improve serviceability.

Low-RPM Torque

Because full torque is available at low engine speeds, drivers can operate efficiently while maintaining strong performance.

Available In

The S13 Integrated Powertrain is available in multiple International truck models. As a result, fleets have options for both on-highway and vocational applications.

S13 Engine

The International S13 engine was engineered to deliver strong operating economy without sacrificing performance. Through extensive testing, International developed a new cylinder and piston head design with maximum cooling properties and paired it with a double overhead cam architecture to support efficient combustion and reduced fuel consumption.

In addition, the S13 can operate at low RPM with high torque, helping drivers maintain performance while using less fuel. Available with up to 515 horsepower and 1,850 lb-ft of torque, the engine combines clean-burn technology with a streamlined design that eliminates the need for a traditional EGR cooler.

As a result, more exhaust flow is directed through the turbocharger to help improve both performance and efficiency while supporting long-term reliability.

T14 Automated Transmission

Designed in-house specifically for the S13 Integrated Powertrain, the fully automated T14 transmission was engineered from the ground up to work seamlessly with the S13 engine. This 14-speed overdrive transmission features two crawler gears, deep low-end gearing, and a wide overall gear ratio designed to support efficient operation across a variety of terrain while maintaining strong low-speed performance.

The T14 is optimized to deliver peak fuel economy performance in direct drive during typical loads while still allowing overdrive operation when lightly loaded or empty. An electronically controlled clutch actuator works in sync with the engine to deliver faster, smoother shift performance, while the single countershaft design supports simplicity and reliability.

In addition, full torque is available at only 900 RPM, and the transmission’s wide overall gear ratio supports efficient operation across a variety of terrain. For vocational applications, the T14 offers specialized drive modes including paver, off-road, and split-shaft modes to help tailor performance to the job.

For vocational applications, up to six reverse gears are available, and factory-installed PTO with dual PTO options can help support specialized body equipment and jobsite needs. When additional control is needed, the integrated compression release brake provides up to 470 horsepower of braking power, helping drivers confidently manage grades and changing road conditions.

Dual Stage Aftertreatment System

The Dual Stage Aftertreatment System was designed to simplify emissions control while allowing each component of the powertrain to focus on what it does best. Since the S13 operates without cooled EGR during normal operation, the engine can focus on generating power while directing 100% of the exhaust flow through the turbocharger.

This approach allows the use of a simpler fixed-vane turbocharger and eliminates the need for an EGR cooler. To manage emissions, the system uses an advanced Dual Stage Aftertreatment design that introduces DEF in two stages.

Because cooled EGR has been removed from the combustion process, significantly less soot and particulate matter are generated. Therefore, the cleaner combustion cycle helps extend service intervals, eliminates the need for active regenerations, and removes the need for a diesel oxidation catalyst.

Overall, this simpler and more serviceable aftertreatment system supports efficiency, reliability, and long-term uptime.

2027 S13 Integrated Highlights

International designed the S13 Integrated Powertrain with future emissions standards in mind. As a result, the 2027 S13 required only minimal updates to meet EPA 2027 standards. In addition, approximately 90% of the powertrain’s components carry over unchanged, helping fleets transition with familiar service tools, parts support, technician training, and driver resources.

Variable Valve Timing (VVT)

VVT adapts valve timing to match real-time operating conditions for smooth performance and exceptional power across engine speeds and loads.

24V Electrical System

A 24V alternator, starter, and engine controllers help improve cold-crank performance while enhancing starter and battery life.

24V TCM

The 24V transmission control module uses predictive shifting, GPS data, and topography information to optimize gear selection.

EGR Cross-Over Eliminated

Eliminating the EGR cross-over tube simplifies the system architecture and supports improved efficiency, performance, and reliability.
